id8                         is a multi-year process
to reimagine
520 acres of land.

This step-by-step process is moving forward with the input of local residents, key stakeholders, and the city as a whole. So far, we’ve gathered feedback and shared ideas over two rounds of engagement and are preparing for the third.

We’re not

WE'RE A COLLABORATION OF TWO CROWN CORPORATIONS, IN IT FOR THE LONG HAUL AND COMMITTED TO PUBLIC BENEFIT.

    Your input is
      shaping the future

WE'RE CREATING A FRAMEWORK PLAN INSPIRED BY YOUR IDEAS AND FEEDBACK AND INFORMED BY THE PUBLIC POLICY PRIORITIES OF THE CITY AND PROVINCE AND OUR PRIORITIES AS LANDOWNERS.

The process is just beginning and the site will take decades to evolve. We’re currently focusing on land use and improving connections. Details will come later.

WE ENVISION A TRULY COMPLETE COMMUNITY WITH DOWNSVIEW PARK AT ITS HEART.

The vision includes robust employment opportunities, places to connect with neighbours, shops, schools, and other amenities. And it’s one that draws new family homes and badly needed affordable housing.

Towards a
complete community

We see a community that encourages walking and cycling and enhances Downsview Park—preserving and ensuring this asset remains the beating heart of the community. It’s a community where nature is fully integrated and where the runway could become a green network of thriving neighbourhoods.

When we began talking to the local communities in spring 2020, four themes emerged as especially important. We heard calls for:

Our design team ran with these community priorities and presented some early ideas in fall 2020. We were encouraged by the response to our first proposals, but still have lots to do to address a range of critical issues facing this area of Toronto.

We’re developing these ideas and will soon be presenting refined designs to the public.

Building on what’s already here.

The departure of Bombardier is an amazing opportunity, but the area is not a blank slate. We’re working with locals on the ground to understand the place, the surrounding neighbourhoods, and how changes can contribute positively to what’s already working here.

WE’RE SEEKING TO AMPLIFY AND BUILD ON THE DISTINCTIVE, RESILIENT, AND RESOURCEFUL SPIRIT OF DOWNSVIEW.

The local community has also been helping us explore the rich history of this place—identifying stories that are integral to its identity and future.

To know where we’re going, we need to know where we’ve been.

We acknowledge that the Downsview lands are on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit who signed Treaty 13 (1805), and that these lands have also been the historic homelands of the Huron Wendat and Haudenosaunee people.
