Jon Laytner grew up in North York and uses photography as a therapeutic means to deal with life in his new immediate surroundings, the West End neighbourhood of downtown Toronto. Humour and Judaism are often intertwined, and this is no exception with regards to the candid photography of Jewish-Canadian Jon Laytner. He writes: “I have become too familiar with the routines of living in this part of town, and it’s in this cycle I have developed a contempt for my everyday experiences and way of living. The camera offers me an escape from this, and a way to project a fantasy upon real life. It saves me from the boredom of routine and allows me to experience life as I wish to see it.” Jon was commissioned to capture the action at Play on the Runway in 2023.
